THE DIFFERENCE ONE LIFE CAN MAKE-ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL
HISTORY MISSED BY AN INCH; HISTORY MADE BY A CINCH-MOTIVE BECOMES THE DIFFERENCE MAKER THAT LEAVES A MARK ON THE TIMELINE OF LIFE
“A man as a general rule owes very little to what he is born with a man is what he makes of himself”

Alexander Graham Bell.

When you set out to win fame you may lose the game. When you set out to make a name you may miss the fame.

Most of the truly great people never did set out to make a name and win the fame but rather they did step out to play life’s game and help others win with them and in the course of winning with others, they won the fame and made a name.

Alexander Graham’s Bell story is a replica of the above. Read on…
Alexander Graham Bell never did set out to invent the telephone. Bell was a professor of Vocal Physiology at Boston University. His wife was hard of hearing, so being love-motivated he set out to perfect a hearing device in order to help his wife’s hearing ability. He gave the project his best-he sacrificed every spare dollar and moment he had working on his idea.

However, during the course of working tirelessly and selflessly on perfecting a hearing device for his wife, he missed out in accomplishing his mission he had set out for but he made discoveries that led to the invention of the telephone-a remarkable change in the course of history.
History has it that many individuals claimed to have invented the telephone before Alexander Graham Bell and these individuals who held prior patents include Gray, Edison, Dolbear, McDonough, Vanderweyde, and Reis.

Philip Reis who was a German school teacher almost made discoveries that led to the invention of the telephone. Reis actually developed a device that could carry whistling and humming sounds but not the human voice. However, Alexander Graham Bell just moved two electrodes one-thousandth of an inch so they could touch each other in that way he was able to transmit speech loud and clear; that was the missing link that made Philip Reis miss out a place in history. Thus, the telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell.

Elisha Gray filed a patent claim on a device similar to Alexander Graham Bell on the same day but at a slightly later hour. All things worked together for good to a man to a man who set out selflessly to be a solution to his wife but never knew that he was setting out to become a solution to millions of people. He set out to change his wife’s situation but never knew that he was setting out to change the course of history. He never set out to make a name but he did not just make a name but he made history. He never did set out to make a buck from his intended purpose but the Bell’s became a millionaire because of the instant huge commercial success of the telephone.

Alexander Graham’s Bell’s victory over the invention of the telephone was challenged in court. And the United States Supreme Court revealed:
“That Reis knew what had to be done to transmit speech by electricity is very apparent, for in his first paper he said: ‘As soon as it is possible to produce, anywhere and in any manner vibrations whose curves shall be the same as those of any given tone or combination of tones, we shall receive the same impression as that tone or combination of tones would have produced to us’. Reis discovered how to reproduce musical tones, but he did no more. He could sing through his apparatus, but he could not talk. From the beginning to the end he has conceded this.”

In conclusion, the court stated:
“Reis never thought of it, and he failed to transmit speech telegraphically, Bell did, and he succeeded. Under such circumstances, it is impossible to hold that what Reis did was an anticipation of the discovery of Bell. To follow Reis is to fail, but to follow Bell is to succeed. The difference between the two is just the difference between failure and success. If Reis had kept on he might have found out the way to succeed, but he stopped and failed. Bell took up his work and carried it on to a successful result.”

• When you become love-motivated in your pursuits you become invincible and gain extraordinary success.
• “Almost” succeed is a by-word and can never replace success.
• Never challenge the evidence of success but rather challenge yourself to become better.
