EARLY LIFE

Walter Elias “Walt” Disney was born on December 5, 1901.  As a child he was inclined to drawings; he would draw, paint and sell pictures to neighbors and family friends, thus he manifested his entrepreneurial abilities as a youngster.

In high school Disney became a contributing cartoonist for the school paper. Disney dropped out of school at the age of 16 to join the army but was rejected for being underage. He decided to join the Red Cross and was sent to France for a year to drive an ambulance. He returned to the U.S in 1919, on returning to the U.S, Disney decided to pursue a career as a newspaper artist.

FIRED FOR “NOT BEING CREATIVE ENOUGH’

Walt Disney worked with a Pesmen-Rubin Art Studio and Kansas city film Ad Company and was later fired for “not being creative enough’ at the age of 22.

BANKRUPTCY “STEPPED IN”

Walt Disney opened his own animation business and recruited, Fred Hamman as his first employee. Burdened with debt, laugh-o-gram Studios went bankrupt as Walt Disney was forced to declare bankruptcy.

BIG BREAK

Disney partnered with his brother, Roy, pulled their money to Hollywood. The Disney Brothers Studios was created.  Walt Disney developed “Mickey Mouse which was captivating and in 1929 Walt Disney movies was created.

In 1937, Snow White and Seven dwarfs, the full-length animated film produced a whopping $1.499million in the midst of the Depression and won a total of eight Oscars. That was a big break for Walt Disney.

A SETBACK

In 1941, Walt Disney Animation Studios experienced a setback due to a strike action by Disney animators. Many of the Disney animators resigned and it took years before the company fully recovered.

THE WORLD’S FIRST AMUSEMENT PARK

Disney, $17million Disney land theme park opened on July 17, 1955 in California. The site became a reputable place where kids and their families enjoy rides, could explore and meet Disney characters.

WALT DISNEY WORLD

The Park experienced a quantum leap progress and was an entertaining hub for tourists from around the world. Disneyland has expanded its rides over time and branch out globally.

THE DEATH OF WALT DISNEY

Disney began laying out plans for a new theme park and to build the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT) in Florida. It was still in progress when in 1966; Disney was diagnosed with lung cancer. Walt Disney was a life-long smoker. He died on Dec 15, 1966 at the age of 65. His brother Roy executed the plans to its completion. Florida theme park, opened in 1971 under the name Walt Disney World.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Walt Disney has been nominated for 59 Academy Awards, winning 32, all for his peculiar animations. He still holds the pacesetting record for the most Oscars won by an individual. He won 22 Academy Awards in his lifetime. The revenue of the Walt Disney Company in the fiscal year 2015 reached $52.46billion.

  • Love what you do and do what you love.

  • Never let someone’s opinion of you undermine what you believe about yourself. Never let someone’s low estimation of you become the scale in which you measure your own value. You never do what it takes for accomplishments until you believe that you have what it takes. Never live down to the negative opinion of others if you want to live up to your dreams.
  • Never let a temporary setback become a permanent stop to your dreams. “Defeats” are the growing ground for conquerors.
  • Have a comeback plan for your take-off flight to your dreams.
  • Exercise your imagination, lest your potentials be underutilized. Let creativity activate your abilities.
  • You never have a big break until you take a big shot and you never take a big shot until you have big thoughts.
  • Sustained success is not an easy pie to chew but it is surely simple rules to follow.
  • Leave the trace of mediocrity and become a trailblazer.
  • Never keep pace with failure but rather set your mind and become a pacesetter.
  • Never let the habits of your life cut short your life or effectiveness. You must break your bad habits before they break you. Develop great habits and you will be enveloped with greatness.
